Scholarship – Award ceremony 2019
Dear Fellow Dawoodians, ASALAM – O – ALIKUM
Al humdolilah, by the Grace of Allah Taa’la , we did it again this year and it was the biggest DCET Alumni award to-date. As was announced earlier, on March 2, 2019 a ceremony was hosted at Dawood University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) Karachi, to award scholarships to students studying at DUET Karachi.
This event was definitely is one of the biggest ever as 48 deserving students (29 boys and 19 girls) were awarded scholarships on the basis of very good to excellent academic records and financially deserving. Each full scholarship award is worth Rs 25,000 where as some students also availed half scholarships, the total award amount including one special award was in excess of Pak Rs 1.1 million , being the biggest ever in the DCET Alumni Scholarship Program’s six years history!
To grace this event, it was requested that ALL DCET ALUMNI residing in Karachi in particular and even those who reside overseas who could make it may please attend this event. Their attendance and participation is usually inspirational for these students. Usually the VC, Dr. Abassi would hand out the awards, but reasons unknown he could not attend the award ceremony. Short motivational speeches were made by Muslim Abassi, Jamal Zuberi, Shafiq Ahmed and Asif Ahmed visiting from Canada. The speakers emphasized on the need to focus on achieving excellence in studies, especially attention on learning the English language as the applicants lacked both linguistic and written prose in the application forms as this was amply noted during the interview with the students.
Great amount of work was done by the Alumni’s Karachi based chapter (Muslim, Jamal, Shafiq, ) who followed the award process and tried hard to meet the timelines, volunteering and devoting several hours, meticulous planning and executing the entire program, commencing from the screening of 130 odd applications to the final award to 48 students. The entire activity spanned over almost 4 months. Thanks are also due to other members, especially the core team who accumulated the funds and worked hard to make this award possible. Some new members joined the group and two non-member who did not wish to be named contributed quite generously and made this year’s award a huge success. A big thank to you all.
It is requested that this mail be circulated widely to maximum number of DCET Alumni members so that they may be able to comprehend the mechanics of the Scholarship Program and appreciate as to how the collected funds are spent and how this program is helping the needy students of Dawood University of Engineering &Technology.
There was just perhaps one aspect of the program that did not went quite well as planned and that is the Scholarship award program was for the first time not attended by the VC, Dr, Abassi and the event was not conducted in the Conference Room as had been the practice in the past.
Again, thanks foremost to Allah Taa’la for giving us the opportunity to do something for Institute and also in the memory of our beloved E3 friends who passed away. Thanks to you all for making it all happen and bringing smiles on the faces of 48 students.
May Allah Taa’la accept this effort from us and bless you all.
Asif Ahmed – E3
